Digital Signage Display Types Explained
There are 4 general types of displays used for digital signage. These displays are as follows, LCD displays, Plasma displays, LED displays and Projectors. Every digital signage project is different and there are many factors that need to be considered before selecting the right display solution. Here is a brief outline of the advantages to each type of display:
LCD displays used in digital signage applications offer the following benefits:
- Less affected by surrounding light, therefore eliminating the glare associated with Plasma displays
- Not prone to screen "burn-in"
- Use substantially less electricity than tube type TVs
Plasma displays used in digital signage applications offer the following benefits:
- Often priced less than comparable LED and LCD screens
- Offer wider viewing angles than LCD screens (up to 160° viewing)
- Better picture with fast moving videos
- As thin as 1 1/2"
- Power consumption near that of comparable LCD displays
LED displays used in digital signage applications offer the following benefits:
- Typically much lower power consumption than both LCD and Plasma displays
- Emit much less radiant heat due to lower power consumption
- Very thin and lightweight design
- Typically have better contrast than standard LCD displays
LCD & DLP projectors used in digital signage applications offer the following benefits:
- Ability to display large format videos over 65"
- Much more cost-effective than larger plasma or lcd screens
- Require less power than both lcd and plasma displays
- Wide variety of aspect ratios and resolutions available to fit nearly any situation
